Mudanças climáticas e pobreza: reflexões

Abstract

This article studies the relations between the climatic changes and poverty. The methodology is supported by two strands: the first dealing with bibliographical research, documental and the survey of statistic data about regions and populations affected by natural hazards, and second by field research in slums of São Paulo. The data analysis leads to the conclusion that poorer populations suffer most with the climate changes and with natural accidents, so it is necessary to prevent and plan for the territory occupation, as well as monitor and deter squatter movements in protected and preserved areas to minimize the urban events related to floods and landslides.
