Abstract

The article is a review on the eco-efficiency, reverse logistics, recycling methods and routes most used for the recovery of materials and components of dead batteries. The advantages and disadvantages of the most commonly used recycling processes’ routes are evidenced. It also highlights the risks to health and the environment through processes of leaching or percolation of the chemical composition of these compounds in electrochemical systems. Relevant legislation, such as the National Solid Waste (PNRS) and the National Environmental Council (CONAMA), no. 401, of November 4, 2008, effective in Brazil, are cited. This article is presented through a survey of published scientific articles, its main characteristics and findings, for a period of seven years, as well as informative materials from competent institutions and bodies with recognized reliability.
