VI EAICiAmb brings together 64 institutions at UEFS and prioritizes cooperation with the Global South

6th Academic Meeting: The Impact of Environmental Sciences on the 2030 Agenda (VI EAICiAmb) brought together about 150 faculty members and researchers and 150 students at the State University of Feira de Santana (UEFS), Brazil, on 14 and 15 October 2026, in addition to approximately 700 online participations. Sixty-four higher education institutions were represented.
Under the theme “Sustainable territories and scientific internationalization: challenges and strategies for graduate studies in Environmental Sciences in light of the 2030 Agenda”, the meeting fostered dialogue on how graduate programs contribute to the sustainability of territories and to international cooperation.
Two central challenges guided the discussions:
- strengthening and expanding the work of the 13 collaborative networks of the Environmental Sciences Area, the Thematic Clusters, prioritizing, at this first stage, cooperation with countries of the Global South and Portuguese-speaking countries;
- sharing outstanding experiences in science popularization, also featured on the newly created Ciência de Impacto (Impact Science) Platform.
Both initiatives seek to bring scientific knowledge closer to society and to broaden its contributions to achieving the 2030 Agenda.
The program also included a field trip to Chapada Diamantina, with about 100 participants from 27 institutions, expanding opportunities for learning and for dialogue with the socio-environmental realities of the territory.
The VI EAICiAmb also celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Graduate Program in Modeling in Earth and Environmental Sciences and the 50th anniversary of UEFS, reaffirming the university’s commitment to education, knowledge production and socio-environmental transformation.
