The Brazilian Journal of Environmental Sciences (RBCIAMB) proudly celebrates the tribute awarded to Professor Arlindo Philippi Jr., recipient of the 2026 Anísio Teixeira Higher Education Award, granted by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES).
The award recognizes individuals who have made decisive contributions to the advancement of higher education and graduate studies in Brazil.
A retired full professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) and currently a senior professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies of USP (IEA-USP), Arlindo Philippi Jr. has built a nationally and internationally recognized career in Environmental Sciences, sustainability, sanitation, environmental health, and environmental public management.
Throughout his career, he has held highly strategic positions within the Brazilian scientific system, including the coordination of CAPES’ Environmental Sciences Area and the role of Director of Evaluation at CAPES (DAV), a central position in the evaluation and consolidation of Brazilian graduate education. He also served in important environmental institutions and public agencies, including CETESB and IBAMA.
His academic contributions, institutional leadership, and interdisciplinary work have significantly strengthened Environmental Sciences as a scientific field in Brazil, helping train generations of researchers and supporting graduate programs and public policies throughout the country.
At RBCIAMB, Professor Arlindo Philippi Jr. has played a fundamental role since the journal’s foundation, contributing directly to its consolidation as one of Brazil’s leading scientific journals in the environmental field. His legacy remains active through his participation on the journal’s Editorial Board, continuously contributing to the publication’s quality, relevance, and scientific credibility.
